Terms of Service.

We have tried to keep these terms short and readable. They are still a contract, so please do read them.

1. What LatexScribe is

LatexScribe is an add-on for Google Docs that converts LaTeX math notation in your document into rendered equation images, and can convert those images back into editable LaTeX text. Rendering happens in your browser; your document stays in your Google account. How we handle data is described in our Privacy Policy. In short, we do not store your documents or equations on our servers.

LatexScribe works only inside Google Docs and depends on Google's platform (Google Docs, Apps Script, and Google's APIs). It is not available on Google Docs mobile apps, which do not support add-ons.

2. Your account

A LatexScribe account is created the first time you use the add-on, after you confirm on the in-app setup screen. It is identified by your Google account's email address: you sign in only with Google, and there is no separate password. Account and billing support are tied to that email address. To close your account and delete its data, email support@latexscribe.com; closing your account never touches your documents.

You are responsible for your Google account and for having the right to edit the documents you use LatexScribe on. If you use LatexScribe through a Google Workspace account managed by your school or employer, your administrator's policies also apply.

You must be old enough to have a Google account in your country. LatexScribe is not directed at children under 13.

3. Acceptable use

Use LatexScribe for its intended purpose: rendering math in your own documents. You must not:

• attempt to probe, overload, or disrupt our backend services, or access them other than through the add-on;
• attempt to bypass usage limits or paid-plan restrictions;
• use our image-hosting infrastructure to store or distribute content other than the equation images the add-on generates in normal use;
• use LatexScribe in any way that breaks the law or infringes others' rights;
• resell or offer LatexScribe as a service to third parties without our written agreement.

You are responsible for the content of your documents. Since we never see or store that content, we could not moderate it even if we wanted to.

4. Free plan

LatexScribe has a free plan with a monthly limit on the number of equations rendered (currently 50 equations per calendar month, counted per rendered equation and reset monthly). We may adjust the limit over time; the limit in effect is always shown in the add-on. Renders you have already made stay in your documents regardless of any limit. Limits only affect new rendering.

If a render is interrupted, for example by a dropped connection or a closed laptop, equations already on their way into your document may still count toward your limit. If your count ever looks wrong, email us and we will correct it.

5. Paid plans

This section applies when paid subscriptions are available and you choose to subscribe.

• Plans and pricing. Paid plans (such as Pro and Max) raise or remove the monthly rendering limit and may include additional features. Current plans, limits, and prices are shown on our pricing page and at checkout. Prices may change; changes apply from your next billing period, and we will notify you at least 30 days in advance of any price increase to a subscription you already have, so you can cancel before it takes effect.
• Billing. Subscriptions are billed through Stripe, our payment provider. We are the seller of record. Your payment details go to Stripe, not to us. Taxes (such as VAT) are applied at checkout where required.
• Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically (monthly or annually, as chosen) until cancelled. You can cancel at any time via the manage-subscription link in the add-on or by emailing support@latexscribe.com; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep paid features until then.
• If payment fails or a subscription lapses, your account simply returns to the free plan. Nothing in your documents is ever affected by your plan status.

6. Refunds

Our policy is simple: any charge can be refunded in full within 14 days. If LatexScribe isn't working out for you (or you forgot to cancel before a renewal), email us at support@latexscribe.com within 14 days of the charge and we will refund it in full, no questions asked. This applies to first payments and renewals, monthly and annual plans alike. Refunds go back to your original payment method via Stripe, usually within 5 to 10 business days. We may decline a refund where the policy is being abused, for example through repeated cycles of subscribing and requesting refunds.

After 14 days a charge is not refundable, but you can cancel at any time and keep your paid features until the end of the period you have paid for (see section 5).

If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you also have a statutory 14-day right to cancel a new distance contract. At checkout you expressly request that your subscription start immediately and acknowledge that this statutory right ends once it does. Our 14-day refund promise above is what applies instead, and it is at least as generous (it also covers renewals, which the statutory right does not).

Statutory rights you have under the consumer law of your country are unaffected by anything in these terms.

7. Your content and our software

• Your documents are yours. We claim no rights over your documents, your LaTeX, or the equation images LatexScribe creates from them. Those images are inserted into your document and belong to you.
• The software is ours. LatexScribe (its code, design, and branding) belongs to ONESTOPML LIMITED and its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the add-on under these terms. You may not copy, modify, or reverse-engineer it except where the law permits.
• LatexScribe uses open-source components (such as the MathJax rendering engine) under their own licenses.

8. Service changes and availability

We are a small product and we iterate. We may change, improve, or discontinue features, and we do not promise uninterrupted availability. LatexScribe also depends on Google's and Cloudflare's services, which are outside our control.

One structural reassurance: equations already rendered live inside your documents, not on our servers. If our service is unavailable (or even if it shut down permanently), your existing rendered equations and their embedded LaTeX source (the editable source of each equation) remain in your documents. An outage only pauses new rendering and de-rendering.

9. Disclaimers

LatexScribe is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not guarantee that it will be error-free, that every LaTeX expression will render (or de-render) correctly, or that it will always be compatible with changes Google makes to its platform. We do promise to take reasonable care and skill in providing the service, a promise consumer law implies and we do not exclude.

Back up judgment still applies: LatexScribe edits your documents at your instruction. Google Docs keeps version history, and we design carefully to never lose your text, but for critical documents you should use Google's own version history and copies as your safety net.

10. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under the law of England and Wales, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for faulty digital content that damages your device or other digital content where we failed to use reasonable care (Consumer Rights Act 2015), or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Subject to that:

• we are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable to both of us when you started using the service, for losses not caused by our breach, or for business losses (loss of profit, revenue, or data in a commercial context) where you use LatexScribe for business purposes;
• for paid plans, our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in that period;
• for the free plan, our total liability is limited to £100.

If you are a consumer, you may have rights that this section cannot limit, and those rights prevail.

11. Termination

You can stop using LatexScribe at any time by uninstalling it and, if you wish, revoking its access in your Google account permissions.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms (for example, abusing the backend or attempting to bypass limits), or if we discontinue the service. If we terminate a paid subscription other than for your breach, we will refund the unused portion of what you have paid. Termination never touches your documents: everything already rendered stays in them.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. We will only make material changes for good reason: changes in law, changes to Google's or our providers' platforms, security, pricing, or new and improved features. The current version always lives at this address with its effective date. For material changes, we will give notice in the add-on or by email (for paid subscribers) before they take effect. If you keep using LatexScribe after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, stop using the service and (for paid plans) cancel. You will keep access until the end of the paid period, or, if a change materially reduces what you have already paid for, tell us and we will refund the unused portion instead.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protection of your local mandatory consumer laws and may bring proceedings in your local courts where the law gives you that right.
